1. Response Activities
|
Throughout the course of 14 weeks, I studied children’s literature and participated in many activities that addressed young reader’s individual learning needs and tendencies. This site is composed into four parts: Response Activities, Word Activities, Goodreads reading list, and Storyboost research.
Response Activities are activities that are designed to engage learners in the deeper meaning of text such as societal issues, morality concepts, and the consideration of different perspectives, after they read a children’s book. These activities challenge young minds and allow them to engage deeper into literature. The Word Activities are activities designed to match students’ current level of writing ability. Each Word Activity enables students to further practice essential writing skills and provides them with the opportunity to advance to the next developmental level. Word Activities should not be presented to students until the student expresses interest in the skill level addressed within the activity. Developmental writing should be a natural process in which the instructor guides the student. This website includes one word activity for each developmental level, and explains how to utilize these activities with children. The Goodreads list is a compiled list of children’s books that have been awarded with best illustrations. I have provided my own list of read books that you may look through and rate yourself. Lastly, the Storyboost research is a reading program designed to introduce literature to emergent readers that may otherwise not possess the necessary resources. I conducted my own research through the Storyboost program, and included my observed thesis based on the students’ natural responses. |
